After contacting Rep. Jimmy Duncan (TN-02) re. the HR333 articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney, several people have received a form letter stating that he does not support impeachment of anyone in the Bush administration, and that he does not believe that Bush "or anyone else has committed any impeachable offense."
His letter also notes that the "very liberal Speaker of the House" Nancy Pelosi "does not support impeachment of President Bush or Vice President Cheney or anyone else," and that even though "the House is now controlled by liberal Democrats, there is almost no support for impeachment at this point." Duncan notes, however, that he has "heard from several constituents recently who support the impeachment of some Bush Administration officials."
For the record, Congressman Duncan voted yes on ordering the House Judiciary Committee to investigate impeachment against President Clinton, and voted yes on all four articles of impeachment against Clinton.
So in Rep. Duncan's mind, misleading investigators on a witch hunt regarding a bad land deal that nobody made money on about private affairs that are nobody's business rises to the level of an impeachable offense, but it's A-OK to manufacture intelligence and deceive the American people about non-existent threats to start a war that has cost the lives of more than 3,000 American soldiers and countless Iraqi civilians not to mention nearly a trillion U.S. taxpayer dollars.
Do you suppose Democrats will run a credible opposing candidate this time around? Probably not. I'm beginning to think term limits for Congress aren't such a bad idea after all.

Regarding leadership and independence out of Duncan.
He may make a big deal about his "independence" when he votes against some republican programs, but he only does so when it is symbolic and never when it is a deciding vote.
At least you get some idea of leadership and independence out of Duncan.
I can't say the same thing for the Democratic constituencies in districts represented by Tanner, Gordon, or Davis.
You have a better chance of having your views heard than those folks have.

His "Independance" is an empty show.
