Mike Padgett at the Tin Roof in Nashville

Sean Braisted and Ilissa Gold met up with Mike Padgett at the Tin Roof in Nashville last night.

Sean has Padgett's comments on energy, and Ms. Gold notes his remarks on education. Both were impressed with his candor and straightforward approach.

(Does Mike Padgett really say "mad props?" Makes you wonder who's writing his blog...)

Mad props

I noticed that Sean threw "mad props" to Mike earlier in the week. Maybe it's an inside joke??

While he considers himself

While he considers himself to be an environmentalist, he feels that we should be willing to encourage offshore drilling in the waters surrounding Florida.

I am undecided, but this opinion might have just lost my vote.

The "11 miles out" standard

The "11 miles out" standard may be OK for aesthetics, but a spill could be catastrophic for the Gulf Coast environment, not to mention tourism.

He spoke of research into

He spoke of research into gentically modified sugarcane which would potentially allow the crop to be grown all throughout the lands south of the Mason-Dixon. Padgett used the example of Brazil, and their large ethanol production industry

Sure do wish he would be more creative. A lot of people don't want ethanol.

Farmers love that stuff. It's all about the rural vote.

P.S. I thought Bush already

P.S. I thought Bush already opened up the previously closed Gulf areas to drilling and they were already selling or had sold leases?

Not Sure

According to a map provided by the Dept. of Interior, there is a much larger buffer between the coast and drillable sea floor in Florida, than there is in Alabama.
