Congratulations to Barack Obama on his (rather decisive, considering the late split for 2nd place) win in the Iowa caucus.
As of 10:10ET...
Senator Barack Obama : 37.29%
Senator John Edwards : 29.98%
Senator Hillary Clinton : 29.52%
Governor Bill Richardson : 2.12%
Senator Joe Biden : 0.94%
Uncommitted : 0.12%
Senator Chris Dodd : 0.03%
Precincts reporting: 1671 of 1781
UPDATE: MSNBC reports that Biden and Dodd are out. Kucinich still in - although his showing was worse than both combined.
UPDATE again: MSNBC reports that Gravel is out. He was a candidate?

John Edwards just made me cry. I've been for Hillary, because I think she's tough enough to fight back once the Republicans start up their politics of personal destruction, but I gotta admit you don't often see her talking about American veterans sleeping under bridges, or about fighting back against corporate greed.
This has been a tough year. ANY of the Democratic candidates would be so much better than George Bush that I honestly would be thrilled with any of them.
I'm just worried about election-theft monkeyshines, is all.

The single most impressive thing about Iowa was the turnout.
Last time 125,000 Democrats and 87,000 Republicans showed up.
This time 227,000 Dems and 120,000 Reps were there.
Obama won the new shows and came in third with the regulars. Edwards won the regulars and Hillary came in third everywhere. Obama outspent everybody by a huge margin to get his win, including almost three times as much money on TV ads as Edwards spent.

Edwards [has] the message, Obama has the money.
Money doesn't inspire people who don't normally give two craps about politics to show up and sit through a highly partisan 1-2 hour Democratic caucus (unless of course you literally hand them the cash). His money didn't inspire young people to show up in greater numbers than ever before. His money didn't inspire independents to get involved in the Democratic process; Barack Obama did. You may not like his message, but enough Iowans did.

Yeah. You could almost smell the hubris coming through on the television last night...The real contest is going to be the February 5 states. Can't believe we'll have a putative nominee by Valentines Day, for cryin out loud.
Huckabee looks so much like Gomer Pyle I have trouble taking him seriously. Well golllleee! At least he's reasonably articulate when spelling out his flat-earth positions on issues, unlike the current occupant.

Whoops. That anonymous comment was me...sorry folks.
Huckabee
You don't want him. He's petty and power hunger. Has a quick temper, and questionable ethics.

Up until 1996 the Democratic Iowa caucus winners did not mean a heck of a lot in the final nomination.
