Fredmentum?!!?!?

Today on GOP radio, comedian Rush Limbaugh approvingly and hopefully read two excerpts suggesting that Senator Fred Thompson is surging in South Carolina.

Some guy quoted at "The Brody File":

My assessment is that at this moment in time it is Fred Thompson's race to lose. It may be a convergence of the right man, in the right place and at the right time. I have never seen anything like this grassroots swell for Thompson.

Some guy at Human Events:

Traveling through snowy South Carolina with Fred Thompson, I’m struck by the sense that finally, the man has arrived. The candidate so many conservatives were excited by early in 2007 is finally walking the land.

Walking the land or walking on water?

What do the polls say about this rumored Fredmentum?

Pollster.com's latest South Carolina poll of polls has Thompson's support at 13%.

Hmm, that doesn't appear like much of a "grassroots swell." So what leads Limbaugh to think Thompson may win? Call it the magic of "barnstorming":

. . .there's a day left here, and there is apparently some genuine energy for Thompson because he is barnstorming and from what I've learned about South Carolina, everybody goes to Iowa and goes everywhere. But in South Carolina, because there's not much time after Iowa and South Carolina, a lot of people spend much more time in Iowa since it's first and New Hampshire than they do South Carolina, and as such, they concentrate on the more cosmopolitan areas and the larger cities of South Carolina. Thompson is out there all over the state apparently just on a barnstorming tour, and these recent dispatches of the excitement for him out there, we'll see if it manifests itself during the vote tomorrow.

Someone's going to be wrong about this. Is Thompson poised to shock the world? We'll soon find out.

Fred Thompson was the guy

Fred Thompson was the guy you date, not the guy you marry. Seriously, does that show how gag-a-maggot the Republican Party is, or what? Fred jumped the shark (I am so glad I finally learned what that means) before he even jumped into the race. He wanted the Presidency as a retirement gift, and even the Grand Old Party is not that senescent.

Liberty and justice for all.

Is anyone else

Really, really confused by his speech? Is he dropping out or not?
