John Edwards 28,173 4.46%
Barack Obama 254,186 40.24%

Total Votes 631,680

Republicans:

Mike Huckabee 193,217 34.61%
John McCain 177,191 31.74%
Ron Paul 31,212 5.59%
Mitt Romney 131,552 23.56%
Fred Thompson 16,249 2.91%

Total Votes 558,321

Turnout was approx. 36%, based on 3,287,103 registered voters as of Dec. 2007.

Obama wins "big city" counties in Tennessee, except Knox.

Polls closing early have an effect?

I also suspect the total popular vote for the state would have been a bit closer without so many polls in West Tennessee having to close early due to the weather. At least it wasn't the three hours I heard reported originally. You have to give props to the hardy voters in East Memphis who actually cast their ballots in the dark, but it probably would have been better for them to be tucked up in a basement somewhere.
